Iron Cupcake: Earth...Ingredient Music

So as promised I said I would do my best to compete in this months Iron Cupcake. In an effort to get on the Ellen show, Iron Cupcake is asking everyone to use MUSIC as the ingredient. Pick a song and base a cupcake around it.

I can tell you at this moment I do not have an idea yet. I am a HUGE Mariah Carey fan so could obviously go to that angle. However I am wondering if it would be better to go the classic route and pick a popular song...feel free to comment or tweet your ideas.

Meanwhile I have until the 24th of this month to come up with something...so stay tuned!!

Introduction and Welcome!

Welcome to "Baking In The Making" blog!

Let me first start off by telling you a little about me.  My name is Rian and I currently live in Orlando, Florida.  Born and raised in Michigan, I went to Culinary School at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.  I have worked in a Sheraton Hotel, Greyhound Race Track, various Disney World restaurants including a Signature Restaurant where I had an item on the menu, a small bakery, a Wine Bar/Bistro, and a supermarket bakery.  So needless today, the majority of my working years thus far have been in the food service industry.

However most of my training and experience has been in savory items.  I have always been interested in baking and pastry arts, specifically cake decorating, but the whole subject nonetheless.  School had a few very basic baking classes, but the more intricate classes were for those specifically in that major.  I have over the years done a little bit here and there, including taking the Wilton Cake Courses 1 and 2 and played around at home.  Lately I have been reading more and more blogs related to baking, pastry, cake decorating, and cupcakes, as well we the infamous "Cake Wrecks" which is the most entertaining thing online!  And I figured why not do this myself?

So "Baking In The Making" will be my journey through trying, learning, and creating items at home.  I am very interested in using fondant, making marshmallow fondant, and getting in the cupcake decorating craze that has seemed to become popular.  So you can be assured those will be some of the first entries.  And just because this is a baking blog that is not to say I will not ever cook savory dishes here as well.

My goals with this blog are:  grow and learn through practicing baking, inspire others to do the same, gain a loyal group of readers and become a popular food blog, update once a week if possible but go now more than 2 weeks without an entry, discuss baking topics and news as well as show off what I am trying in my own kitchen, and finally to be entertaining and enjoyable to read!  So welcome and let's get baking!

- Rian

*Please note that I am in the process of moving in the next few months, so may not officially start consistent updates until I am move into my new place.  So be patient until late July and August for a more thorough blog!
